Focus on HR Management With an Online Bachelor's Program

Louisiana State University Shreveport offers three unique concentrations for the Bachelor of Science in Management and Administration online program. One of these specializations is human resource management.

In short, the HR management concentration allows students to learn how to manage the workforce needs of companies. Graduates leave with a thorough understanding of organizational behavior, staff training, compensation and even conflict management. If you think this may be the right career path for you, read on to learn about the type of people who excel in human resources, what entry level positions are available, and the earning potential of HR professionals.

Who Succeeds in Human Resource Management

The most significant sign that human resource management is right for you is that you already work in the field and enjoy your job. Keep in mind that many companies require employees to have a degree in human resources or business administration to become a manager in HR. The online format of the LSUS degree program makes it ideal for working professionals who want to advance.

Of course, you don't have to already work in human resources to succeed in this program and career. Business Insider reported in February 2017 that this profession is changing and that new human resource managers should have three traits: leadership skills, comfort with numbers and in-depth knowledge.

Entry-Level Positions in Human Resource Management

The Society for Human Resource Management found that 59 percent of employers prefer applicants to hold a bachelor's degree in business with an HR concentration when applying to entry-level HR management positions. Clearly, this degree program can help you become a human resources manager, but what are those entry positions like?

The duties of each position may vary, depending on the industry and size of the company. Many graduates go on to work as human resource managers, payroll administrators, recruiters and organizational developers. As of Februrary 2019, PayScale.com reported that the average salary for these entry-level positions was $56,749. Based on 2,189 votes, PayScale.com also reports that professionals in these positions are extremely satisfied.

Earning Potential in Human Resource Management

As you may have guessed, graduates with this degree often go on to become human resource managers. They can work for companies of any size to curate talented, happy and productive workforces. Overall, these managers are well-compensated for their efforts.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual salary for human resource managers was $123,510 in 2017. That comes out to about $59.38 per hour. On the top end of the spectrum, professionals in this area made up to $197,720 per year.

If you currently work in HR or have the appropriate skill set, you may wish to pursue this area of concentration. This path can allow you to fill one of many human resource management roles and become well-paid for your expertise.
